Joined Apr 22, Messages I'm looking into getting a GeForce GT video card. It will be an 8X AGP video card because that is what my current motherboard supports. I would like to be able to obtain GeForce Ultra speeds, but the ultra is a lot more expesnive.
But that thread was from October Could things have been changed by NVIDIA since then in order to prevent people from overclocking to a better video card for less money? Or is it hard and risky? Zinn Guest. The stock cooler on the Ultra is beefier so it can dissipate this added heat. Also, the Ultra has more capacitors and a different voltage regulator to deal with increased power requirements. Because of the difference in voltage regulation circuitry, many people who flash their GTs to Ultras end up with a dying card pretty soon.
A GT clocked at Ultra speeds is actually slightly faster than a stock Ultra because the memory timings are tighter on the GT.
The stock cooler on the GT is usually up to the task of handling this level of overclocking. MOST people exceed it, but even with my beefy IceStorm aftermarket cooler, my GT just won't go past mhz on the core, and I don't want to push the voltage up.
Buying an Ultra guarantees that you will get the speed of an Ultra and you won't have to void your warranty to do it I personally think that getting a GT is a much wiser choice, considering that you can probably get its speed way up there without paying a fortune. Either way, both cards kick ass for today's games. Zinn said:. Click to expand Elios Supreme [H]ardness. Joined Aug 12, Messages 7, Nomad 2[H]4U.

This is without adjusting the voltage on the card at all. This was also the second GT that I have owned.
I bought the first one at CompUSA way back when, plugged it in that evening and could not clock it over I returned it as a defective card and got this little gem. Really - depends upon the individual card - but most GTs are good overclockers.

The circumstances behind the e-GeForce GT's most significant performance win in the Far Cry tests are even more complicated. Although we normally hate testing with beta software because of the potential for inconsistencies, we used early code almost across the board for the Far Cry tests.
We have beta Nvidia drivers, we used a beta of Windows Service Pack 2 at the time of testing the only way to get our hands on DirectX version 9. Also, we tested Far Cry with an early version 1.
The reason for all this chicanery: Shader Model 3. The new GeForce series cards are the first to support Shader Model 3. You can expect ATI will also support this feature in future products, and when it's fully implemented by both card vendors and game developers, SM 3.
After Crytek releases a series of patches to enable SM 3. The 1. Dual Monitor - select which to use for game I want to play game on the other monitor. Games In Community Talk. As soon as that was done, the smoothness returned to the Graphics in FS I've been having issues with these drivers as well, so i'm sticking to No issues with these cept with Sims 2 :.
Just going through lots of forums and found your issue with your I too just purchased a system with this card and I have had nothing but problems trying to run FS Through my computers customer service reps we discovered the last true good driver for this card is v Through other forums Avsim I discovered a better driver; it is v I read where the v I'm looking into getting an aftermarket cooling adapter and I hope this will rectify my problem.
I read on Microsoft web-site that this is a known issue.
